Public meeting in support of Kobane school project

kobane-schoolIn 2014-15 the northern Syrian city of Kobanê was besieged by the barbaric Islamic State. After months of desperate struggle Kurdish defence forces won an epic victory but Kobanê was wrecked. Today, despite a vicious Turkish embargo, Kobanê is slowly rebuilding.

The Kurdish community in Australia is trying to raise $400,000 to help build a school for war orphans in the city. The school will be run on enlightened, democratic principles. Australians for Kurdistan is supporting this effort. Come to the public meeting and hear a panel of speakers address this important project. The gathering will be chaired by Colin Long, Victorian state secretary of the NTEU. Hawzhin Azeez, general manager of the Kobanê Reconstruction Board, will speak via Skype from Kobanê.

Thursday, August 11, 6:30pm. New Council Chambers, Trades Hall, cnr Lygon & Victoria Sts, Carlton South. Suggested donation $5/$3. Organised by Australians for Kurdistan. Donations to the school project can be made here.
